Cambridgeshire Wedding Photography
Long golden evenings. The Backs in bloom. Grantchester in full summer. Cambridge wedding photography at its most beautiful.
Check AvailabilityCambridge in summer is a particular kind of beautiful. The stone of the colleges warms in the long afternoon light, the river meadows are at full lush green, and the Backs provide a backdrop that changes completely from the stark winter views. Best of all, the golden hour in June and July runs from around 8pm to near dark — which means that even for couple portraits after your ceremony and reception, the light is still warm and perfect.
As a Cambridge-based wedding photographer, I know the light patterns at every season across the city's key locations. In summer, the Backs hit their best light from around 6pm. Grantchester Meadows in the evening is soft and golden. The Botanic Garden in July is at peak bloom. I use all of this knowledge to give your wedding photographs the best possible conditions.
Whether your venue is King's College, Madingley Hall, a Cambridgeshire country house, or a marquee in private grounds, I bring the same care and attention to every summer wedding I cover in this extraordinary city.
The Backs are at their most extraordinary in summer — lush punting lawns, ancient stone warmed by long days, and the river at its most beautiful. Couple portraits beside the Cam with King's College behind are the defining Cambridge summer wedding image.
A short walk from the city centre, Grantchester Meadows offer open river meadows, wildflower verges, and the kind of golden hour light that only long summer evenings provide. For late-afternoon portraits, it is incomparable.
The Botanic Garden in summer is a riot of colour and structure — rose gardens at peak bloom, herbaceous borders, the glasshouses and lake. For couples who want something more intimate than the Backs, it offers extraordinary photographic variety.
One of Cambridgeshire's finest wedding venues — a full Tudor manor house in grounds that seem designed for summer photography. The formal gardens, the lake, and the walled kitchen garden all offer distinct backdrops.
The villages and country estates south and west of Cambridge offer beautiful summer wedding locations — Longstowe Hall, Anstey Hall, Wimpole Estate, and the rolling fields between them at peak summer green.
Quintessentially English in summer — deck chairs under apple trees, light through leaves, the hum of bees. The Orchard at Grantchester is not a wedding venue per se, but as a portrait location it is one of the most charming in England.

The golden hour in summer Cambridge is extraordinary — in June and July, the sun sets after 9pm, which means soft, warm light persists well into the evening. For outdoor portraits, late afternoon and early evening are ideal. The Backs around 7–8pm in summer have a quality of light that is genuinely magical.
Cambridge summers are warm and mostly dry compared to the rest of the UK, though rain is always a possibility. I photograph in all weathers. Light overcast days are actually excellent for photography — no harsh shadows. If there is rain, we work with it creatively. I always scout the venue beforehand and know the best covered spots.
The city centre is busy in summer. I scout portrait locations with this in mind — the Backs are busier in summer but there are quieter corners and times. I advise on timing and location choices so your portraits are not crowded. Many couples use Grantchester Meadows specifically because it is quieter than central Cambridge.
Yes. I cover all Cambridgeshire wedding venues — Madingley Hall, Wimpole Estate, Chilford Hall, Anstey Hall, Clare Hall, Longstowe Hall, and many others across the county. For venues further afield within Cambridgeshire, a travel agreement is included in the booking process.
Absolutely. Punting portrait sessions are one of the most distinctive things you can do at a Cambridge wedding. I coordinate with the punting company and photograph from the riverbank and bridges. It requires a little planning but the photographs are completely unlike anything else.
