North Cambridgeshire
Norman church, village green, and the open fen edge — family portraits and weddings north of Cambridge.
Longstanton Photography
Longstanton is a South Cambridgeshire village eight miles north of Cambridge, set within the arc of North Cambridgeshire villages along the fen edge between the A14 and the open flatlands to the north. The village has a fine Norman and Early English church, a traditional green, and easy access to both the Cambridge guided busway greenway and the open fen landscape that begins just north of the village. I photograph families, couples, and portrait commissions across Longstanton and the surrounding villages, working with this varied and accessible north Cambridge countryside.
The appeal of Longstanton as a photography setting is its combination of classic English village character and proximity to Cambridge. For North Cambridge families who want relaxed outdoor portrait sessions within 20 minutes of the city, the village and its surroundings provide everything needed: a peaceful church setting, an informal green, and open countryside — without the crowds that can make Cambridge's own parks and college gardens difficult for relaxed family photography.
I cover the whole cluster of North Cambridgeshire villages — Longstanton, Swavesey, Oakington, Cottenham, Willingham, and Bar Hill — as part of my standard Cambridge and Cambridgeshire coverage, often combining two or three locations in a single extended session for variety.

Local Settings
Longstanton's Norman and Early English parish church — a beautiful flint-and-stone building with a peaceful churchyard — provides a classic English village backdrop for family and couple portrait sessions.
The traditional village green at the heart of Longstanton gives a relaxed, quintessentially English setting — well-suited to informal family portrait sessions with children.
The off-road guided busway path runs on a former railway line through open countryside south of Longstanton — a tree-lined green corridor well-suited to walking family portrait sessions.
The open agricultural land north of Longstanton — flat-horizon fen, big Cambridgeshire sky, and the characteristic quality of north Cambridge light — gives portraits a wider, more expansive landscape character.
Longstanton Locations
Common Questions
Longstanton is a village in South Cambridgeshire approximately 8 miles north of Cambridge city centre — about 15–20 minutes by road. It sits between the A14 and the fen edge, adjacent to Swavesey and close to Bar Hill and Oakington. I cover Longstanton and North Cambridgeshire villages without additional travel charges for portrait sessions.
Longstanton's church and village green are the primary portrait locations within the village. The guided busway greenway provides a pleasant walking-trail setting through open countryside. For more expansive sessions, the fen-edge landscape north of the village gives big-sky portraits unique to this part of Cambridgeshire. For a wider variety of backdrops in one session, nearby Swavesey's Norman priory and Over's distinctive church are both within a few minutes' drive.
